The Dilemma Facing Tigray Liberty Media (TLM) Website Editors

Open Letters

Dear Tigrai Liberty Media (TLM) readers and followers,

we truly appreciate your support and engagement. Thank you for being a valued part of our community!

Over the years, as webmasters and editors, we have always strived to remain neutral when handling articles and opinions submitted to Tigray Liberty Media (TLM) – Chime of Liberty! ደወል ሓርነት!. Our core belief was to inspire readers to engage by reading and responding. While the media often offers either positive or negative takes on issues, the real challenge for website owners is telling apart trustworthy sources from unreliable ones. Since webmasters lack the tools to verify the accuracy and credibility of every post, and because viral word-of-mouth can spread quickly and cause harm, each submitted article needs careful review. Negative word of mouth can be even more damaging to press freedom than the articles themselves. As Gandhi wisely said, “Anger and intolerance are the enemies of correct understanding.”

We’ve heard from close friends and readers of Tigray Liberty Media (TLM) – Chime of Liberty! ደወል ሓርነት! A largely encouraging statement, which has also sparked strong reactions. We truly appreciate your honest opinions, and we want to reassure you that TLM’s strength lies in its reputation for trustworthiness, its commitment to freedom of the press and speech, and its honesty and transparency with the public.

We are steadily working through challenges to serve the best interests of every Tegrawot, ensuring everyone has a voice within our guidelines. We believe that diversity brings us together; by fostering unity and harmony, we can reduce misunderstandings related to our different backgrounds and instead find our shared ground. Our variety of ideas is a valuable asset that helps us grow. Genuine participation in the digital world naturally involves a mix of support and opposition, and both are essential for honest dialogue.

It’s often sad to see a gap where readers might hesitate to accept different viewpoints or engage openly with the writer. Democracy shines through its core features: freedom, dissent, tolerance, justice, and fairness. These are not just moral ideals but also political principles that guide our actions. They help us create shared value systems and establish what is considered appropriate conduct when exchanging ideas. Sadly, sometimes, after reading, people tend to blame the service provider instead. Remember, in a healthy democratic society, embracing political tolerance and diverse perspectives helps us grow, learn, and see new possibilities beyond our experiences.

Given the rich diversity of social backgrounds in our Tigrai, where different ideas and political views coexist, it’s understandable that finding a single rule of thumb that works for everyone can be quite challenging. We are becoming more divided, with many people feeling confused, while a small group has become skilled at deception. It’s important for us to change the mindset among those who cross political lines, all while working towards real success and social justice. We’re all on a learning journey regarding democracy and press freedom, often through trial and error. Healing our community will take time, patience, and a thoughtful approach spanning generations. We must be careful not to lead astray or exclude well-meaning, patriotic Tegrawot who want to see positive change.

We believe in protecting the freedom of the press, which has shown its importance time and again across many websites. Instead of just chasing likes, it’s essential to consider different ideas sincerely. With such a mindset, true reconciliation becomes difficult because personal interests often come first, followed by the interests of the Tigray people, then Awerajabashing, leaving the country’s democratization for another time. Tigray Liberty Media (TLM) – Chime of Liberty! ደወል ሓርነት! was created to serve the Tigrai people. We are focused on supporting this purpose and are not interested in giving editorial remarks on individual writers who follow the guidelines of DISCLAIMER and Notice.

Where there’s a chance to show understanding and respond kindly to different views, distrust still lingers in our nature, often deepening political divisions. Many people get stuck in their past experiences and struggle to embrace change. Unfortunately, we’re sometimes stripping ourselves of the rights democracy offers us. There’s hardly anything more absurd than silencing ideas we don’t agree with. It’s high time for us to adopt a new mindset—one that champions tolerance passionately, strives for social justice, and promotes equality.

We foster a culture of integrity by encouraging open and honest communication, while maintaining a warm, respectful, and professional environment for everyone. Let’s work together to build an atmosphere of respect and understanding, regardless of our political beliefs or national backgrounds.

Sincerely,

Tigray Liberty Media (TLM) Editors
