To: Lieutenant General Tadesse Werede, President of the Tigray Interim Administration
Subject: Call for Inclusive Representation and Self-Governance for Enderta and Raya
Dear General Tadesse
I am writing to respectfully express a deep concern shared by many within the communities of Enderta and Raya regarding the ongoing political representation and administrative structure of the Tigray region.
While we acknowledge and appreciate your increasing commitment to peace and stability in the region, it remains evident that the name “Tigray” continues to be politically and administratively dominated by a select group of individuals and entities. As long as this continues, and the broader population is denied meaningful representation, it becomes necessary to consider alternative paths to ensure justice, inclusion, and self-determination.
We categorically reject the notion that Tigray is fully represented by those currently speaking and acting in its name, particularly when their influence is limited to specific areas such as Aksum and its surroundings. The people of Enderta and Raya — rich in history, culture, and identity — cannot continue to be subsumed under a regional identity that neither fairly represents them nor accurately reflects their aspirations.
No individual or community in Enderta or Raya should be marginalized, misrepresented, or erased in the name of a broader political agenda. Therefore, based on the collective will and legitimate rights of our people, we find it imperative to initiate a lawful and peaceful process toward the establishment of a self-administered regional government, one that reflects the authenticvoice and interests of the people of Enderta and Raya.
This action is not intended to foster division, but to ensure genuine federalism, dignity, and equity as mandated by the Constitution and the principles of self-rule. We believe that sustainable peace is only possible when every community feels seen, heard, and empowered.
We hope you will understand and respect this stance, and we remain open to dialogue and cooperation throughout this process.
Sincerely,
Lilay Hailemariam (On behalf of the concerned citizens of Enderta and Raya)
