[TLM Editorial]
The current treacherous political declaration by senior TDF generals represents the most significant challenge and is hard to swallow for Tigrayans. According to the Pretoria agreement, the two-year-old government allegedly has not implemented sweeping reforms, and Tigrayans are losing faith in their leadership and ability to lead. It is unfathomable to me that the current TDF generals would invite the brutal, murderous Isaias’s officials to a meeting. Isaias has inflicted on us a painful genocide and insensitive act of unbridled tyrannical murder, which is sad and can’t be forgotten by the people of Tigray.
Although the group led by Debretsion, with a great deal of mischief and corrupt political charlatans behind the scenes, was agreed to represent fifty-one percent, they continued to prioritise the party over the peace, security, and bread-and-butter issues, i.e., the returning displaced Tigrayans and the territorial integrity of Tigray. Thus, the expectations for the basic needs and security of the people and government are far from fulfilled, and many people are asking whether there will ever be a leadership change.
A vicious circle has taken hold in Tigray, where the government is further crippled and less able to act, and the citizens have lost confidence in the leadership and the institutions. Massive criminal acts, betrayal, political violence, and deterioration of the security and economy are central problems for the existence of Tigray.
Tegaru is worried about where Tigray’s destiny will be daily. It is a supreme irony that those who say that they struggle against oppression and persecution are fuelling a campaign of division and chaos from the comforts and privileges of democracy in the USA, the likes of Sebhat Nega. We think we should see the immediate danger and rectify it now when we have the opportunity to do so. Otherwise, the charlatans, bigots, and their sympathisers, who incite Awraja discord and blind loyalty to the repressive and corrupt TPLF charlatan leadership, might take us to the irremediable path of violence among Tegaru. Their time is over; any attempt to disrupt the change will be suicidal.
Abiy’s peace accord with Isaias of Eritrea, signed in 2018, which earned Abiy Ahmed a Nobel Peace Prize, was, in fact, a window dressing and a smokescreen for their joint agenda to conduct war against Tigray.
We have now come to conclude that the war on Tigray is not just against the TPLF leadership, as the Abiy regime falsely claims to hoodwink Ethiopians in particular and the world community in general. Still, it is aimed at committing genocide on the people of Tigray and erasing Tigray from the map.
Tigray is led by the TPLF charlatan leadership that could not understand the geopolitical scenario and is doomed to repeat its demise as the desolation of the EPRDF.
Tegaru must reject the TPLF charlatan leadership trying to drag the people of Tigray to another genocidal war if we love to see our people’s freedom, liberty, democracy, and good governance to flourish in our beloved Tigray. We must be united to say goodbye to the corrupt TPLF leadership and the treacherous TDF generals once and for all: what are we waiting for?
