TLM Editorial View on TPLF Corruption and Mismanagement of EFFORT Financial Resources
These views are based on our research and experience with individuals affiliated with EFFORT. What appeared in “Africa Intelligence: Ethiopia: Tigrai elites fight it out over EFFORT’s financial resources” is what we editors of TLM promote as a response to the level of corruption fuelling the current political crises within the leadership of TPLF and the TIA Administration.
We wonder why we are being governed by these treasonous individuals who used Tigrai’s patriotic youth as cannon fodder to carry out their own maniacally twisted and genocidal political agenda. Maybe this incident tells us how far we have failed as Tegrawot to trust these despicable, brutal traitors as our leaders. Maybe, in a roundabout way, God is giving Tigrai a chance to restore its lost humanity through those mercenary TPLF leaders who are now running Tigrai to the ruins.
We, Tegrawot, must consider that all the development schemes credited to TPLF in Tigrai would have been more diverse than a monopolistic Communist business model operated by the TPLF leaders, dipping their hand in every business pot. Even though the general population of Tigrai may not have benefitted as much as the opposition group seems to portray the condition in Tigrai, there is no question that close friends and family members of top TPLF leaders and some of the military generals have, indeed, become multimillionaires and billionaires.
We are equally disappointed with those running many Tigraian media: YouTube, bloggers, chat groups, journalists, reporters, and EFFORT officials. These media people, rather than writing exclusively supporting articles on the TPLF splinter faction led Dr Debretsion, could have better focused on investigating and exposing corruption and waste of Tigrai’s wealth that is supported with evidential data and photos of discarded or abandoned projects, expensive machinery, et cetera, worth billions of birr. A few well-researched papers supported by pictures of the waste, corruption and looting of EFFORT’s assets could have helped galvanize Tegrawot and bring about much-needed reforms, transparency and accountability which is long overdue.
Let’s suppose the Interim Administration was serious about eradicating corruption, controlling waste, reforming mismanagement, etc.; why did it not immediately establish an Independent Commission of Inquiry on Mismanagement and Corruption, answerable to the Interim Administration? A Commission of Inquiry investigating the previous two administrations of Abay Woldu and Debretsion may be appropriate to bring closure to many unresolved issues, not only on crimes of human rights abuses but also on corruption and waste of public resources.
The corruption and waste of public assets at EFFORT are just the tip of an iceberg of incredibly vast proportions and criminal wrongdoings by high officials and family members.
Nevertheless, all accusations of corruption should be investigated thoroughly rather than in a boisterous and humiliating manner where guilt is insinuated or associated without factual and material evidence. What we surmised from the factual matters surrounding the industrial complex seems to be primarily cases of corrupt practices, purchases without public bidding, supervision, and timely auditing by a third or independent party, not controlled by EFFORT.
The people of Tigrai have one enemy within the bosom of our beloved Tigrai. Sebhat Nega’s repeated interview subtext seems to be lashing out. It is a form of last-minute stupor, a dying man losing his political grip on a younger generation that is progressive, innovative, and inclusive. In the interview, Sebhat Nega seems to be trying to undermine Getachew by pointing out that he is the real TPLF enemy because of his attempt to reform it. That enmity is with the group led by Sebhat Nega, Dr Debretsion, and their followers.
This is also a call to all Tegrawot, who may still have residual sympathy for the corrupt and treacherous TPLF leaders, to reject them, including Sebhat Nega and his mischievous ill advice. The people of Tigrai should now have a clear picture of Sebhat Nega, Dr Debretsion, Alem Gebrewahid and Fetlework, who always want to defend Eritrea’s sovereignty at the expense of Tigrai national interest. Therefore, there can be no excuse to support or sympathize with such TPLF mercenaries and traitors any longer.
This is a call to all brave sons and daughters of Tigrai to stand for Tigrai, who are duped into believing they are serving for Tigrai by supporting the treacherous TPLF splinter faction led by Dr Debretsion and the godfather of the TPLF. It is time to wake up and see the new reality that Tigrai youths are being used to be mercenaries for Shaebia to defend the Isaias regime, plotted by Sebhat Nega, Dr Debretsion, Alem, and Fetlework, who have no allegiance to Tigrai and its people.
Rebellion against such treasonous TPLF leaders is a noble act of heroism and patriotism if the people of Tigray are to realise their liberty, freedom, democracy, justice, accountability and good governance.
